What is a Floating locating pin?
Floating locating pins are also known as compliant pins. They are used in High Speed sheet metal assembly. Floating pins eliminate hole damage in aluminum parts and greatly decrease pin wear in high strength steel assembly. All pins can be round four way pins by using floating pins.
- Floating locating pins are used in the following applications:
- Aluminum Parts / Floating Locating Pins are superior to retract pins / No hole damage / No aluminum buildup on pin
- High strength martensite steel parts / Minimizes pin wear by relieving side pressure during part unload
- End effectors / Eliminates pushers / Eliminates panel damage by relaxing pins so parts fall off
- Multiple 4-way pin capability in same part with easy onload
- Allows easy removal of long weld cycle parts with up to +3mm distortion
- Eliminates the need for 2-way pins and slots
